Building with a low environmental impact in Milan. Two residential buildings with 35 apartments each will serve as a future hub for the entire area
thanks to their great expressive power and careful use of renewable energy. The plans called for a residential complex with a powerful architectural imprint in terms of an environmentally friendly and low-energy structure. The project, defined by two residential buildings with 35 apartments each, strives to serve as a focal point for the future layout of the entire area. The façades vary according to their exposure and aspects, thus making the structures very expressive. The interior fronts, which are identical, are characterised by compositional compactness punctuated by a ceramic surface that envelops the complex, forming a sculptural connection with the roofing. The exterior façades and the ends of the buildings get a light touch and are marked by broad continuous balconies curving around the building. The effect of lightness is achieved through pale colours, thin balcony slabs, the transparency of the glass parapets, and the frosted glass elements that create the impression
of a “shell”. The buildings pay enormous attention to the environment. The combined use of technological systems that exploit renewable energy permits huge energy savings, entirely eliminating the production of CO2 and fine particles. The structure distinguishes the urban fabric by identifying a diagonal line towards the quarterʼs main attractions. It thus places a positive emphasis on the surrounding urban fabric, emerging as an innovative architectural element with respect to the current layout of the area, characterised by the presence of old-style dwellings (apartments overlooking a courtyard) and more recent constructions that have maintained standardised architectural features.
