INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY AND NEW AREAS FOR THE UNIVERSITY Structural and architectural redevelopment of one of Rome’s most important examples of industrial architecture to transform it into the new premises of the Faculty of Architecture  of Roma Tre University.

Rome Tre University has bought several buildings of the former Rome Abattoir to house the Faculty of Architecture. In particular, the work regards the working design and the redevelopment and renovation of several of these buildings. The structural and architectural redevelopment of the buildings will respect all of the restrictions on one of Romeʼs most important examples of industrial architecture. The project includes the demolition and reconstruction of the existing roofs to comply with current regulations regarding energy conservation and comfort, and the reinforcement of all the walls to render the buildings compliant with anti-seismic regulations. The following work will also be necessary: partial rehabilitation of façades, replacement of roofing on the primary trusses and the placement of micropiles in several of the foundations. In functional terms, the buildings will be used for teaching and to house administrative and secretarial offices. The classrooms will be constructed according to the definitive design, adopting the necessary measures for energy conservation and compliance with fire prevention regulations: wood and/or Kerlite floors, radiant panels, glass partitions, plasterboard cladding for soundproofing, etc.
