SIMPLE FORMS THAT LEAVE THEIR MARK ON THE LANDSCAPE
Two rectangular structures that express high architectural quality through the use of exceptionally expressive materials and technologies for a sports centre in a new district of Rome.
The formal design of the sports centre was conceived as a complex capable of leaving its mark on the landscape, due to the immensity of the area in which it is set. From a compositional point of view, the building is formed by two intersecting geometric forms. The first is a rectangular structure almost 9 metres high, approximately 18 metres long and 29.5 metres wide. It is a “container” clad with a glass façade characterised by alternating transparent and translucent elements. This system of different coloured panels of glass was designed to allow the interior space to be reinterpreted from the exterior, in accordance with the notion of permeability suggested for the centre in terms of its accessibility and image. The supporting structure of this volume is constituted by laminated wooden portals with a span of 4.8 metres, treated with a bleaching process in order to avoid creating a trite image of the material, as well as enhancing the effect of lightness and purity, which is heightened by the roofing system of structural panels made from plywood. The second structure is prevalently opaque and takes the form of an extruded volume containing all the service and support areas for the centreʼs activities. To contrast with the first structure, it has a painted reinforced- concrete structure. In formal terms, the minimalist design of the interiors made it necessary to give the elementary volumes of the project an architectural quality reliant on the use of highly expressive materials and technologies. From a functional viewpoint, the entire complex was devised on three levels, including a suitably ventilated basement to house the various technical systems. The open-air plant is positioned externally, in a partially buried position and connected to the centre via a service tunnel.

LUXURY APARTMENTS IN THE HEART OF ROME
The restoration of a building complex in the centre of Rome, which was originally a convent and subsequently converted into a school and then offices, will create new luxury apartments and a totally mechanised car park.
The project envisages the redevelopment of a complex of buildings, situated between Via Cavour, Via Sforza, Via Lanza and Largo Venosta, between the Palatine and the Rione Monti in the heart of Rome, to create luxury apartments with public areas designed by Armani Casa. The buildings, with opus incertum structural masonry, originally housed a convent, then a religious school and most recently,
before its purchase by Europe Risorse Srl, the offices of the Ministry of the Interior (SISDE). The most challenging part of the work is the creation of a mechanised underground car park with two levels beneath street level offering space for 36 cars, built in the area of the inner garden with the aid of firms specialising in the production of reinforced-concrete structures and mechanised systems.

NEW PRODUCTION AREAS AND SERVICE ACTIVITIES
Two buildings that complete an existing structure to house a production plant and supporting activities for the FIAT factory in Cassino.
The project for the extension of an existing building within the FIAT plant in Cassino, in the province of Frosinone, envisages the construction of two buildings situated along the north-south axis of the existing constructions. The structure on the north side (with an area of approximately
10,000 square metres) is destined for the production of bumpers and is constituted by two areas known as “Moulding” and “Painting”. The latter in particular is arranged on two storeys with a projecting section housing the painting station, bathrooms, changing rooms and a portion of the offices. The structures of the elevation are made entirely from metal elements with plinth foundations on posts with a diameter varying from 60 to 100 cm. The façades and roof are made from insulated panels of sheet metal, while the industrial-type floors are 20–50 centimetres thick with a resin finish. A building (with an area of approximately 1250 square metres) with the same structural and architectural characteristics has been erected on the south side. However it has tiled floors and walls, modular false ceilings made from fibreboard, and aluminium fixtures. The ground floor will house a canteen and changing rooms, while the first floor will be occupied by offices. Finally, all the necessary work has been performed externally for pavements, road surfacing and areas of greenery.

The mixed commercial – residential complex is planned into a bigger Master Plan called “Isolato Stazione”. Itʼs situated in the centre of the town and it is basically done by mixed commercial – residential complexes settled in the part of ex Italian Railways areas recently acquired by Roma Docks Ltd with other neighbouring areas. This area called part B from the runways of the airport arrives to the centre of the town and to the waterway. The elements that characterize this place are the new Alessandro Anselmiʼs Town Hall, the former glass factories, masts, little ferryboats, towboats etc. The complex sited on part B area is called Fiumicino docks and it is about 30.000 cube meters. The development of the master plan choose a linear shape of the buildings close to the edges of the site. The project follows the longitudinal direction of the area and took inspiration from the elements that characterise the place; like a “big anchored tanker with the bow to the sea and the wind”. The office spaces are close to the square that is going to be done in front of the Town Hall; the commercial spaces face to the centre of the town; the residential spaces are into the internal courtyard and along a pedestrian path. So, the special features expressing the Fiumicino Docks “life style” are the big terraces (the bridges of the tanker), transparent partitions in the living areas of the houses that built an open space continuing the terraces. The internal courtyard is rich in gardens, plain materials joined to the wood, the transparency and the green. Totally there are 110 apartments with surfaces from 50 up to 100 Sqm.
